Crawfordsville – Funeral arrangements are pending here for a 21-year-old local man killed earlier this week in an explosion at Royal Air Base, Bentwaters, Suffolk County, England. US Airman james R. Short was killed Monday when an airplane fuel tank he was working on exploded said the victim’s father, Howard Meese, 807 Prospect St. Short, an apprentice fuel system mechanic and another mechanic were working on an F4-D Phantom Jet when the accident occurred. Meese said his son’s remains were not returned to Indiana as scheduled Thursday. He said he had no idea when the body would be returned or when funeral services would be scheduled. Short was a 1974 Crawfordsville HS graduate. - kbz
